Capri, From the Water

An afternoon of island views, a little Prosecco, and one very questionable decision about how much time we had left.

There are some experiences you book because they look beautiful online. And then there are the ones that end up being even better than you imagined.

Our boat trip to Capri was the latter.

We'd booked an eight-hour excursion with You Know! Boat through GetYourGuide, and from the moment we were picked up at our hotel in Sorrento, the day felt like one of those travel decisions we'd gotten very right.

With just six other guests on board, it was the kind of small-group experience I love. Relaxed, personal, and without the feeling of being shuffled around with 40 strangers.

Our captain and guide were wonderful hosts. There was wine, Prosecco, snacks, lunch, and plenty of time to take in the scenery. The sort of day where you're sitting on a boat off the Italian coast thinking, yes, this is exactly why I travel.

A Little Time to Get Lost in Capri

One of the things I appreciated most about this excursion was having four hours to explore Capri independently.

Rather than spend our time browsing the designer shops around Capri town, we made our way to Anacapri, where everything felt a little more relaxed.

We wandered through the shops before taking the chairlift up to Monte Solaro, the highest point on the island.

And those views.

The kind that make you stop taking photos for approximately three seconds before immediately taking another 40.

Naturally, we celebrated making it to the top with a glass of wine.

The only part of the day I'd do differently? Leave more time to get back to the boat.

We underestimated how slowly traffic would move coming down from Anacapri and ended up running late.

Island traffic doesn't particularly care about your itinerary.

The Best Part Was Still to Come

Once everyone was back on board, we continued exploring Capri from the water.

We passed the Blue Grotto and other landmarks along the coastline, with dramatic cliffs rising above the Mediterranean and impossibly blue water stretching out around us.

Eventually, we stopped for a swim.

And there's something about swimming in the Mediterranean, surrounded by the coastline of Capri, that makes you wonder why you don't do things like this more often.

The journey back toward Sorrento was the perfect end to a day that somehow managed to combine adventure, relaxation, beautiful scenery, and just enough excitement to keep things interesting.

Would I Do It Again? Absolutely.

Of all the experiences we booked during our 16 days in Italy, this was easily one of my favourites.

The smaller group, wonderful hosts, beautiful coastline, and freedom to explore Capri independently made it feel like we were getting a little bit of everything.

Would I recommend it? Without hesitation.

My only advice? Don't underestimate how long it takes to get around the island, especially if you're heading up to Anacapri. Four hours sounds like plenty of time until you're watching the clock and wondering whether your boat is about to leave without you.

Would I book with You Know! Boat again? Absolutely. In fact, I'd happily spend another day exploring the coastline with them.

Some travel experiences live up to the photographs. This one was even better.
